The countdown clock arrives at Stupid Towers
Team Stupid's massive red digital clock of doom is our physical manifestation of the Countdown to Copenhagen - 'COP15', the UN meeting this December that could decide the fate of all humanity.
The clock has already had a pretty eventful life, and has some exciting plans about how it is going to spend the next few months in the run-up to COP15. Here's a quick rundown of what the clock has been up to so far - and where it may be travelling next...
Pete pushes the big red button
Pete Postlethwaite did us the honour of starting the countdown at the People's Premiere of Stupid, in our solar cinema in Leicester Square back in March.
Its next stop was the Put People First march, a rally to put pressure on G20 leaders to tackle the poverty, employment and environmental crises. They weren't interested. Tube travel disagreed with the clock somewhat, or at least with the chaps carrying the thing. It got hailed on too, but didn't seem to mind that much.
Then the clock was off on holiday in Prague, oddly, with Oxfam, who were there for the big EU/US Summit on the 5th April. The giant heads (of state) literally have the world in their hands, while the clock ticks implacably on in the background...
Right now, the Countdown Clock is back at home, brightening up the office at Stupid Towers with its cheery blinking red-alert display, but is soon off on further adventures - first to the Indie Screenings launch at the Royal Society of Arts on May 22nd, and then to the Eden Project, to form the centerpiece of a display about COP15 and it's implications for our chances of stopping catastrophic climate change.
If you have an idea for somewhere cool the clock could go, please do let Team Stupid know - we're totally open to suggestions. Just email clock@ageofstupid.net and we can talk.
Onwards!
