Sabrina Fidalgo

Sabrina Fidalgo is a young Brazilian filmmaker, screenwriter, actress and producer born in Rio de Janeiro. She is currently living between Berlin and Rio de Janeiro and speaks fluently Portuguese, Spanish, German and English. She has written, directed and co-produced the feature documentary Cidade do Funk ("City of Funk") produced by Diler Trindade co-owner of Brazilian largest film company Diler & Associados. Cidade do Funk will be finished and released in 2010. In 2006 she wrote, directed and produced her first film, the documentary short Sónar 2006 – Special Report, co-produced by British webzine "Clubbity". In 2007 she also wrote, directed and produced the German short Das Gesetz des Stärkeren ("The Law of the Strongest"). She also has been working in several German small productions as well as in important Brazilian feature films by award-winning Brazilian filmmakers like, among others, director Joel Zito Araujo. Before moving to Germany in 2001 she studied Dramatology at the Universidade do Rio de JaneiroUniversidade do Rio de Janeiro and after have learned German at the Deutschkurse bei der Ludwig Maximiliam Universität, in Munich, she holds a Humanities and Sociological Studies degree at the Studienkolleg bei den Universitäten des Freistaates Bayern. Later on she studied documentary film as guest student at the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München („Munich School of TV and Film“) and afterwards she has been granted a study scholarship in the Screenwriting course at the Universidad de Verano de Córdoba, in Spain, where she was student of, among others, Oscar® winner US screenwriter Zachary Sklar . As the daughter of Ubirajara Fidalgo, actor, author, theatrical director, and creator of the Brazilian theatrical company Teatro Profissional do Negro known as TEPRON („Professional Black Theater"") and Alzira Fidalgo, co-founder of TEPRON and cultural producer, Sabrina made her stage debut at the age of 2 in play Desfulga, which was written, directed, produced and acted by her father. Two years later she started taking classical ballet lessions and appeared in a small role in Brazilian feature Quilombo directed by Carlos Diegues. At age 15, after having acted professionally in several plays, she wrote her first play, an adaptation of Brazilian children's book Menina Bonita do Laço de Fita by Brazilian authoress Ana Maria Machado. Two years later she joined the Cia. Moderna de Dança do Rio de Janeiro ( „The Modern Dance Company of Rio de Janeiro“) as a professional classical ballet and contemporary dancer. Besides the documentary Cidade do Funk her other newest film project is the short film Black Berlin.
