THAT Pete Postlethwaite certainly gets around.

Fresh from backing the JMU students who won the Environment Agency’s film awards, the Warrington-born Hollywood legend has made his own green movie, The Age of Stupid.

Set in 2055, it sees Pete as a man living alone in a world devastated by climate change.

It focuses on his life after an environmental disaster that has destroyed the natural world.

The film was screened last night at the University’s Guild of Students in recognition of Liverpool’s Year of Environment, followed by a debate by climate experts from across the country.

Professor Andy Plater, from the University’s Department of Geography, says: “The film is about looking back and trying to understand why we didn’t stop climate change when we had the opportunity. The event allowed members of the public to discuss their thoughts, fears and doubts about climate issues with experts in the field.”
