The Age of Stupid is smart
THOSE of you who have been reading this column long enough won’t be surprised to read that “stupid” can refer to yours truly.
The reason for that is no matter how many environmental movies The Sneak watches his carbon footprint doesn’t get any smaller.
Every global-warming film has made your critic promise to himself to fly less, drive less and vote Green. But it is always something that will happen the day after tomorrow.
But it will be different this time because The Age Of Stupid slaps you around the face, tells you to wake up to the impending end of mankind, then punches you in the stomach for not caring and finally kicks away the legs of any “Oh, it will be all right” argument.
This feature, which stars Pete Postlethwaite as an old man in 2055 looking back at our destructive behaviour, has enough attitude to power a large city. Director Franny Armstrong gets angry at oil companies, at NIMBY anti-wind farm protesters and us.
Be smart, go see it.
Rating out of five: Four hats.
