22nd November. This page is under construction, sorry for all the mess. The screening information is correct.
Kiribati was one of the great successes of the global launch. It captured the hearts and minds of everyone on Team Stupid and kept us going through the madness that was the global premiere. And when those photos came in... Just brilliant.
We received an email on the 14th September from Pelenise Alofa, our contact in Kiribati, which got us all really excited;
Our screening for "The Age of the Stupid" is confirmed for 22 September at the Sports Complex. We are aiming to have 5,000 people, God willing! But I am optimistic because we will send the information out to the churches, schools, government offices. We start at 6.30 pm and finish at 9.00 pm.
I've arranged for someone to do the coverage (video) so we could send you photos.
We will have a 15 minutes preliminary programme and a closing programme at the end of the movie. This will involve three speeches by youth going to Copenhagen in December. i want them to have some practise now before they go.
Then we have some songs: "Turn down the Heat", Dancing in the Waves, Waters Do rise, Who will take my people?....there are quite a few Climate Change songs that our people here in Kiribati would be shocked to hear!
Then we have the youth dancers and dramas.
So it is going to a full programme on awareness and climate change entertainment. This is really a good opportunity for us...having to show this movie and I thank Lizzie for passing this on to me! it gives me the tool to use for my campaign!
Well the next campaign for us is the 350. We are already working on this as well but right now I am in the process of organising funds for this because it will be expensive.
Ben, that's the update from Kiribati..the vulnerable country in the Pacific! Lets keep working hard. Thanks for your help and suport.
All the best,
Pelenise Alofa
And they didn't disappoint. They may not have had 5,000 people but it was certainly a huge crowd and a massive success. But it wasn't until two days later that we had the chance to see the pictures and here is the reason why;
Ben Sorry that the Kiribati photos are late...our photographer (a youth coming to Copenhagen) discharged himself from hospital just to do the shooting for us and then went back to hospital. I am praying he will be well today....and am so grateful that he forced himself to attend the premiere eventhough he was sick. The photos will come and hopeful is today!!! Pelenise Alofa
A massive thanks to Kari James for discharging himself and for taking the pictures.
On September 21st / 22nd, on the eve of the UN General Assembly's climate session, The Age of Stupid was launched internationally at the biggest and greenest live film event the world has ever seen. A-list celebrities walked the green carpet to an eco cinema tent in downtown New York, linked by satellite to 700 cinemas in 50+ countries. Take a look at the photos below from the events around the world and see the Global Premiere page for the full report.
Sorry we couldn't organise a Global Premiere event in your country, we tried our best. Instead, you can watch the film online for free here until the 22nd of October.
