First confirmed Crude character
Our plan to save a few quid on non-exchangeable Eurostar tickets has backfired and left us spending the night in a Paris train station. (Could have got a hotel for four hours, but felt too bad spending our sponsors' cash). Lizzie is sleeping next to me, but I'm not sure we should leave 10,000 quids worth of camera equipment unguarded all night. So I'm texting friends in different time zones, finally listening properly to the brilliant Holy Joy album (as heard on McLibel) and updating this threadbare diary.
We're on our way back from a flying visit to the Alps, having spent all day yesterday filming the riotous wedding of the daughter of our first confirmed Crude character - Francesco Frangialli, mayor of a local French ski resort called Morzine. We only hooked up with him a couple of weeks ago, but as soon as he mentioned the upcoming wedding, we couldn't help attempting to recreate the Godfather opening scene. Ish. The usual wedding problems - can I look smart enough not to embarrass anyone who knows me, will there be anything for non-carnivores to eat? - were in attendance, with the added difficulties that we knew no one and speak almost no French. But it seems that everyone was pretty tickled that "The English Television" was filming and - being France - got extremely drunk early on. We even had a quick dance at 3am, before getting the cable car down the mountain, packing our bags, changing into non-wedding clothes and getting the bus to the train station.
