Real tears are dripping onto my laptop typing this, as Emma Thompson has just found out that it's all been a big misunderstanding and Hugh Grant isn't married after all. This is extremely worrying and not just because of my history of electrical equipment and water.

Suspect my Israeli may have something to do with this newfound girlieness. Watched Lost In Translation earlier - the exhilarating connection unable to translate into real life - with much the same result. I was a spring chicken of 30 when the idea for Crude popped up. Suddenly I'm gonna be 35 in a few months - and am surrounded by happily-coupled friends either reproducing or (more common) finding out they can't. Does not feel good.

At a screening of McLibel the other day I met the first person who has decided not to have children - despite him and girlfriend wanting to - because they don't want their child to face climate change.

But then, High Tide Mark said the other day that he wouldn't sacrifice his son to completely reverse climate change. Even though he believes that Tom (his son) and everyone else is definitely doomed. Understand the logic of that, non-parents amongst us.

Went to Alex Cooke's (her of the original idea for Crude) party last night and ran our current crisis by a selection of documentary types in various stages of drunken lounging (Alex is moving out of her house, so there was no furniture, just floor cushions). Everyone agreed that, out of the three options for our WAR character (cute kid getting medical treatment in US, asylum seeker getting kicked out of UK on 18th b'day, widows living on street in Jordan), that the widows were the best. Very glad to hear it, as I'd come to the same conclusion.

Also saw a distributor who was going to distribute McLibel years ago, but then bottled out when she got the fear of McDonald's suing. Told me how much she's always regretted that decision. Nice to hear.

And saw National Film School doc-teacher Dick Fontaine, who is planning a five-character interweaving feature doc about trainers (or sneakers, as he calls them, despite coming from Essex(?)). Sounds like a good format...
